Monday is rarely a teacher’s favorite day, but as many of you will know, today is not just any Monday. It is in fact World Teachers’ Day, mandated by UNESCO in 1994 to be celebrated around the world every year in honour of hardworking teachers, and in preparation for future generations of learners and educators. We want to take a moment to thank all of our Glogster educators who are committed to making a difference in the lives of young people, and who have been our constant allies in creating progressive and engaging educational technology.
In order to get your learners interacting with the ethos of World Teachers’ Day, we have created two quick and easy templates for learners to fill with their own thoughts about education and the value of teachers in their own school, and in schools around the world. To use the templates, simply view them while logged in and click the green ‘make a copy’ button to open your own editable version.
Our first template gives younger learners a chance to charm you and your colleagues, with space for them to offer gratitude in their own way, as well as prompts for them to think about how they can help teachers to create a positive learning environment. Let learners take some photos around the classroom and record a special thank you message to teachers around the world, and you will find yourself with a set of colourful and quirky resources to not only get learners thinking about of the value of education, but also to give you and your colleagues a quick burst of motivation when you find yourselves wondering why you teach.
The second template is for more advanced students, giving them an opportunity to research education on a global scale, and compare their own classroom to those in areas where a good education is not as easy to come by. By filling in the text boxes on the glog, adding images and videos from their research, and adding their own hopes for world education, learners can delve deeper into the objectives for World Teachers’ Day, and consider how they can reach out and help fellow learners in the worldwide quest for knowledge.
Teachers, while in many ways today feels like any other Monday, settling back into your teaching routine after a brief weekend of relaxation, know that today is your day – a day for the world to thank you for the vital role you have in your society. We hope that our resources kick-start some valuable conversations in your classroom, and that however you spend your day, you hold your head high in the knowledge that you are a teacher!
